Description The exterior of the Owatonna Public Library at the time of its opening in 1900. Designed by architect Frank Alden Gutterson of Smith and Gutterson in Des Moines, Iowa, the building is neoclassical in style, in the shape of a modified Greek cross. Inscriptions state: PVBLIC LIBRARY and FREE TO ALL over the entrance. On the back of the photograph are printing instructions signed by Ben E Darby, publisher of the Owatonna People's Press.
